Brief Introduction
1. PCD Blanks Introduction
PCD, called Polycrystalline Diamond, has caused huge reformation for wire drawing because of its successful development. It makes the whole process of wire drawing more efficient and stable.
PCD is sintered with micron diamond powder and bond( cobalt or silicon) under high temperature and high pressure conditions. It is with high hardness, good wear resistance, good impact strength,etc.. Wire drawing dies with PCD will show even wear, long lifetime in the process of drawing, which can be used for high speed drawing. PCD won’t cause the uneven-wear hole and not round hole which mono crystal diamond will be, when drawing because PCD presents Isotropic macroscopically. Otherwise, PCD is widely used in drawing due to the cheaper price than mono crystal diamond. Most diamond wire drawing dies use PCD Blanks.
2. PCD Blanks application:
With the difference of bond, PCD Blanks can be assorted to cobalt banks and silicon blanks. PCD Blanks with cobalt, which include metal bond, has good machinability and can be machined with electric spark, laser, ultrasonic wave, etc.. However, cobalt will make diamond prone to graphitization high temperature easily. This type of blanks is suitable for processing and using under 650 ℃. Silicon-based PCD blanks have relatively poor machinability. However, good thermal stability is still maintained at 1000 ℃ because there is no metal bond in it.
